OpenAI, the company behind artificial intelligence advancements, has acquired one of the internet’s oldest and most well-known domains, ‘chat.com’. This marks a significant step for the company, as starting today, anyone typing ‘chat.com’ into their browser will be directed to OpenAI’s AI chatbot, ChatGPT.
The announcement of the acquisition was made via social media platform X by OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman. However, OpenAI has not disclosed the financial details of the transaction.
It is speculated that the previous owner of the domain may have received some shares in OpenAI as part of the agreement, although this has not been officially confirmed.
