Star Health, India’s largest health insurance company, has fallen victim to a cyberattack, with hackers demanding a ransom of $68,000. The company reported that these hackers are also involved in stealing customer data and medical records.
A report by Reuters in September indicated that a hacker was using Telegram chatbots to extract sensitive information from customers, including tax-related information and medical claim details. Following the publication of this report, Star Health faced significant challenges.
In the aftermath of the incident, the company’s shares began to decline, dropping by approximately 11%. Star Health has stated that an internal investigation is currently underway.
Previously, the company had claimed it was the victim of a cyberattack. However, this Saturday marked the first time Star Health publicly acknowledged that it received an email in August requesting $68,000 as ransom.
