Hyundai has commenced operations at its factory in Georgia, USA, ahead of the scheduled timeline. The construction of the $7.6 billion facility has been completed, as reported by AP.
According to the report, the factory is currently manufacturing Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs). Additionally, last week, the plant held an event to mark the first commercial production of electric vehicles (EVs) with its employees.
Once fully operational, the factory plans to employ 8,500 workers through the South Korean automaker Hyundai and its battery division partner, LG Energy Solution. The Georgia site is expected to produce 300,000 EVs annually, along with battery manufacturing.
The first vehicle produced at the Georgia facility will be the 2025 model of the Ioniq 5 electric SUV, which is set to reach dealerships by the end of this year. Hyundai began construction on the Georgia factory in October 2022.
