Google has launched a new security feature for Android smartphone users aimed at easily identifying lost or stolen devices. This new feature includes the ability to locate stolen phones, lock the device offline, and utilize a remote lock option. With these three security measures, users can now rest assured that even if their phone is lost, their data will remain safe and secure.
According to reports, this feature has initially been rolled out in the United States, with plans to make it available to all users soon.
The new Theft Detection Lock feature utilizes Google AI. If a device is stolen or lost, AI can detect this and automatically lock the phone, preventing unauthorized access. The smartphone’s screen will also be locked immediately, ensuring that the data remains protected even if the device is lost.
Google’s new feature further explains that if the Theft Detection Lock fails to operate, the offline device lock and remote lock features provide an additional layer of security, making it easier to lock the phone. The offline device lock feature can secure the stolen device and help lock the screen, making the lost phone difficult to use. Moreover, the feature can identify if the stolen device is being used by someone else.
The Remote Lock feature allows users to lock their lost device by using any other phone number. Even if an unfamiliar person is using the smartphone, the Remote Lock feature can identify it and shut down the device. Additionally, users can also close the Google account on the lost device through this feature.
