Tesla, the automobile company owned by billionaire Elon Musk, plans to produce four new types of batteries. Production of these batteries is expected to begin by 2026 for the Cybertruck, robotaxis, and other electric vehicles, according to sources familiar with the plan, as reported by Reuters.
Currently, Tesla sources most of its batteries for electric vehicles from other companies, such as Panasonic Energy and LG Energy. However, Tesla aims to become more self-reliant regarding its batteries. To achieve this, the company is focusing on increasing the production of its 4680 batteries within the United States, which is anticipated to reduce costs and enhance supply.
Reuters has not received an immediate comment from Tesla regarding this matter.
