According to reports, the factory was closed in 2021 as the car did not sell as expected in the local market of India. However, keeping the export market in mind, the initiative has been taken to start the factory again.
Ford officials have already held a meeting with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu to start the factory.
While Tesla is still interested in setting up a factory in the country, another US automobile company, General Motors, has left India due to the challenges of making affordable cars.
