Messaging app Telegram may be banned in India for allegedly facilitating criminal activities like gambling and extortion. The Times of India confirmed the information on Monday (August 26) in the Money Control report .
According to reports, if the allegations are confirmed in the investigation, the world’s most popular messaging app may be banned in India.
The investigation is being conducted by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center under the country’s Home Ministry and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
The allegations came after Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov was arrested in Paris on August 24 over his app’s moderation policy. Telegram’s failure to prevent criminal activity is also included in the complaint.
However, IT tycoon Elon Musk and whistleblower Edward Snowden strongly condemned the arrest of Pavel Durov.
