The much-discussed and awaited sports streaming service ‘Venue Sports’ has been blocked by the American court’s verdict. The app-based streaming service, a joint venture between three major media houses – Fox, Walt Disney and Warner Bros. – has been sued by competitor FuboTV, accusing it of violating antitrust laws. The streaming service was supposed to launch this fall. News Reuters.
The joint venture between Fox, Disney and Warner Bros. plans to bring ‘venue sports’ with young sports fans in mind. After the announcement last February, at the beginning of this month (August), details about various features including the price of the streaming service were announced by Venue Sports.
Through this streaming service, subscribers will get a chance to watch 14 live sports channels from Fox, Disney and Warner Brothers in one app. In addition, Venu Sports viewers will also have the opportunity to enjoy on-demand sports content from the vast library of integrated sports networks and ESPN+ from these media houses. Note that this sports streaming service aimed to achieve 5 million subscribers within five years after its launch.
But before the start, Venu Sports had to face legal hurdles.
FuboTV said that while they wanted to come up with a purely sports content-based service, they were forced by media houses to carry unwanted non-sports networks, which are not usually watched by their audience. Also, after the announcement of Venu Sports last February, FuboTV’s shares also fell, which the company has yet to recover from.
However, rejecting FuboTV’s argument, Fox, Disney and Warner Bros said in a statement that they will appeal against the court’s ruling.
