Cyber security firm Symantec has issued an urgent security warning for iPhone users. The company has issued this warning after recently detecting cases of theft of Apple ID (account) of users by sending fake messages. News Daily Mail and The Prothom Alo.
“Apple Important Request iCloud: Visit Signing to Continue Using Your Services,” says the message sent by Apple’s fake identity. Many iPhone users are falling victim to this scam as the message language and writing style are similar to those sent by Apple.
According to Symantec, a group of cybercriminals are sending fake messages or phishing SMSs claiming to solve iCloud problems. A message similar to a message sent by Apple contains a link. Clicking on the link opens a website for quick iCloud troubleshooting. Users are asked to enter the captcha code there. After that, cybercriminals collect Apple ID information when logging in to iCloud.
Symantec said Apple ID security is very important for iPhone users. Because, using Apple ID information, cybercriminals can remotely control the iPhone. Apart from knowing the personal and financial information of users, they can also secretly steal money.
According to Apple’s support page on cyber attacks, cybercriminals often ask to turn off the iPhone’s ‘Two Factor Authentication’ (2FA) or ‘Stolen Device Protection’ feature, pretending to secure or rescue the account. As a result, they can easily carry out various types of cyber attacks. Apple never sends such messages. And so, iPhone users must always use ‘Two Factor Authentication’ (2FA) to stay safe from cyber attacks.
