Russia incurred loss by four billion dollars last year due to the ban on the use of popular social media such as Facebook, Instagram and X.
The ban began in March 2022, when Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the start of a military invasion in Ukraine.
According to global data analyst site ‘Top 10 VPNs’, this is the most dangerous internet-related ban globally in 2023.
The site’s annual report found that government-imposed internet bans cost the global economy $9 billion in 2023, analyzing 196 internet outages in 25 countries.
Among them, the biggest shock was faced by Russia. It is followed by Ethiopia and Iran, where estimated losses due to internet outages are around $196 billion and $92 billion respectively.
