The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has formed a committee to review the Cyber Protection Ordinance 2024, led by the party’s National Standing Committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and comprising Professor A.K.M. Wahiduzzaman and Barrister Kaiser Kamal.
At a press conference held on Tuesday (January 14) at the party chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the formation of the committee. He stated that the decision was made during a meeting of the party’s highest policymaking forum, the National Standing Committee, held the previous day.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The Cyber Protection Ordinance has been discussed in detail. A decision has been made to hold a press conference with more comprehensive information on the law. The committee will immediately prepare a report on this issue.”
The meeting also expressed grave concern over the continued rise in commodity prices. It noted that the combined impact of increasing prices of essentials, rising inflation, and higher VAT and tax rates could negatively affect the economy. In this regard, it was decided to hold another press conference with detailed information.
To address these issues, the committee appointed National Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury as convenor and the chairperson’s advisor Ismail Zabihullah as coordinator. This committee is tasked with preparing a detailed report promptly.
The Standing Committee meeting, chaired by the party’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, was attended by prominent BNP leaders, including Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Jamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salauddin Ahmed, Begum Selima Rahman, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, Major (Retd.) Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, and Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain.
