One of the pioneers of Bangladesh’s information technology sector, SM Kamal, has passed away after a prolonged illness (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un). He breathed his last on Wednesday evening while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka.
His demise has cast a shadow of grief over the country’s IT community. The first funeral prayer (janaza) will be held on Thursday after Fajr prayers at Sobhanbagh Mosque in Dhanmondi, followed by his burial at Banani Cemetery.
Both the Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) have expressed profound sorrow and condolences over his death. Tributes have poured in from IT professionals on social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, highlighting his significant contributions to the nation’s technology sector.
SM Kamal was the first president of BCS and the founding and second president of BASIS, leaving a lasting legacy in the country’s IT business landscape.
