A seminar titled “Drug Discovery: Challenges and Opportunities” was held at Jessore University of Science and Technology (JUST), jointly organized by the Department of Pharmacy and the Research Cell. The event took place on Sunday morning at the university’s central gallery, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid attending as the chief guest.
In his address, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid commended the Department of Pharmacy and the Research Cell for organizing the seminar. He stated, “This seminar will play a crucial role for students aspiring to become skilled pharmacists and researchers. JUST is a research-oriented university, and such seminars are indispensable for advancing research. Through this seminar, students will gain insights into drug discovery processes, which will significantly contribute to their career development.”
The keynote presentation was delivered by Dr. Muhammad Saddam Hossain, a biophysics scientist at SGS Life Sciences, USA. His presentation covered various aspects of drug discovery, including current global opportunities and challenges, the demand for different drugs, and research-based insights. He elaborated on the stages involved in the drug discovery process and their complexities.
The seminar was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Minhaj Uddin Monir, Director of the Research Cell. Additional remarks were made by Professor Dr. Md. Sirajul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Biological Science and Technology; Dr. Md. Amjad Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology; and Dr. Mosha Farzana Sultana, Chair of the Department of Pharmacy.
Faculty members and students from various departments attended the event. The seminar was moderated by Pharmacy students Naushin Jahan Zerin and Nilufa Maharoof Mim.
