Bangladesh Submarine Cables PLC (BSCPCL), the country’s leading international bandwidth provider, has announced a reduction in bandwidth prices to improve service quality and lower costs. The initiative aims to provide additional benefits under two new promotional packages, as stated on its official website on Thursday.
Under the first offer, BSCCL will provide bonuses for customers purchasing bandwidth through the SEA-ME-WE 4 cable. With no outstanding dues, customers who purchase 100 Gbps of bandwidth will receive an additional 30 Gbps as bonus bandwidth (three full circuits of 10 Gbps). While the previous 10% discount will no longer be applicable, customers can still enjoy slab benefits, such as obtaining 130 Gbps at the cost of 100 Gbps.
The second package caters to International Internet Gateways (IIGs) utilizing IP Transit services. Customers with no outstanding payments will receive limited-distance bonus bandwidth from Kuakata and Cox’s Bazar points of presence (PoPs). Additionally, existing CDN providers connected to the BSCCL network will gain destination bandwidth at no extra charge. For purchases of 100 Gbps IP Transit bandwidth, a bonus of 50 Gbps for specific limited-distance destinations will be provided.
According to market analysts, this move follows the rejection of India’s proposal to use Bangladesh as a transit point for supplying bandwidth to its northeastern states. The decision, which came from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC), aligns with efforts to reduce dependency on India’s land-based ITC bandwidth routes. However, some experts suggest that the clause requiring prior clearance of outstanding payments may hinder the uptake of these offers.
This price reduction reflects a strategic effort by BSCCL to enhance internet services in Bangladesh while supporting local providers in decreasing reliance on imported bandwidth.
