Bangladesh’s political parties have condemned India’s recent propaganda and interference, reaching a national consensus on this matter. They have pledged to remain united in their stance.
This commitment was made during a meeting on Wednesday, December 4, at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital, where political leaders gathered under the chairmanship of Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus. The meeting included BNP leaders Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr. Abdul Moin Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain; National Peoples Party (NPP) Chairman Fariduzzaman Farhad; Gan Shanti Andolon Coordinator Junaid Saki; Gano Adhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur; and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis Secretary General Mamunul Haque.
Jamaat-e-Islami leaders Amir Shafiqur Rahman and Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar, along with others from the political spectrum were also present. The meeting was convened to discuss the current situation in the country and to seek advice from political parties on three key issues, as per Professor Yunus’s request. The issues included the ongoing propaganda against Bangladesh worldwide, the vandalism and flag disrespect at the Agartala Assistant High Commission, and the portrayal of minority oppression in Bangladesh abroad.
Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, a senior member of BNP’s Standing Committee, expressed support for addressing the conspiracies against the nation, stating, “We, alongside students and citizens, will resist any external or internal threats to our sovereignty.” He reaffirmed BNP’s commitment to democracy and sovereignty, emphasizing collaboration with the interim government to counteract divisive schemes.
Meanwhile, Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman expressed his party’s willingness to collaborate with the government to counter the propaganda, affirming, “We will work with the government to combat propaganda. We will not fall into anyone’s trap, nor bow our heads to anyone.” He stressed that no compromise will be made on the country’s sovereignty.
Additionally, Asif Nazrul suggested that a nationwide demonstration be organized to unite the public against the anti-Bangladesh campaign from India. He proposed a political council or a security council could be established to support this initiative. Nazrul emphasized that, despite differences in ideology, all political leaders are united when it comes to the country’s sovereignty and existence.
In conclusion, the meeting participants condemned the ongoing attacks on Bangladesh’s sovereignty, such as the vandalism at the high commission, internal interference, and anti-Bangladesh propaganda. They praised the government’s courageous stance against these actions, expressing solidarity and calling for a more vigorous response.
