The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) administration has paid a sum of BDT 87,87,952 in taxes for the fiscal year 2024-25. The payment was made on Tuesday (November 26) during a formal handover ceremony at the Vice-Chancellor’s conference room. The check was handed over to representatives of the Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) by SUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. A. M. Sarwaruddin Chowdhury.

The event was attended by SUST Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Sajedul Karim, Treasurer Professor Dr. Ismail Hossain, and SCC representatives, including Assistant Tax Officer Mohammad Mahbub Alam and Tax Collector Saiful Islam.
Call for Infrastructure Development
During the handover, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sarwaruddin Chowdhury urged SCC authorities to assist in improving the university’s infrastructure. He specifically highlighted the need for swift solutions to internal road maintenance and drainage system issues on the campus.
Background on Tax Settlement
The outstanding dues for holding tax under SCC’s jurisdiction, covering holding numbers 1159 to 1204, amounted to BDT 2,70,49,296 up to FY 2024-25. With this payment, a portion of the dues—BDT 87,87,952—has been settled.
This significant tax contribution reflects SUST’s commitment to fulfilling its civic responsibilities while seeking collaborative efforts for infrastructure enhancements.
