Bangladeshi students aspiring for higher education and job opportunities abroad could collectively save over 7 billion BDT annually through an online apostille verification system for academic certificates. This was highlighted in a workshop held on November 12 at the UGC Auditorium on “Online Apostille Verification for Certificates Issued by All Universities in Bangladesh.”
Prominent speakers at the event included UGC members Professor Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, and UGC Secretary Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam. The event, presided over by UGC’s Information Management Director Md. Omar Faruq, also featured Foreign Ministry Consular Director General Dr. Shah Mohammad Tanvir Mansur.
During the workshop, it was noted that cabinet approval has been granted for the Apostille Convention, which will eliminate the need for re-authentication of documents in 127 signatory countries. The platform will allow over 250,000 certificates to be verified online each year, reducing costs and easing the verification process for students and professionals.
With the implementation of the system, verification time and intermediary expenses will decrease significantly, enhancing Bangladesh’s global image and curtailing fraudulent certifications. The system is expected to process over 10,000 verifications daily, paving the way for secure, streamlined international credential recognition.
The platform, apostille.mygov.bd, will integrate universities across Bangladesh with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Education, ICT Ministry’s a2i program, and UGC. The event was attended by examination controllers and IT officers from 49 private universities, alongside other key officials from the UGC and associated ministries.
