Professor Dr. S. M. A. Faiz, Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), has urged the country’s universities to adopt the Apostille platform for the online verification of educational certificates. This platform is aimed at assisting Bangladeshi students who wish to pursue higher education or seek employment abroad.
Speaking as the chief guest at a workshop titled “Online Certification Verification for Students Seeking to Study Abroad,” held at the UGC Auditorium on Wednesday (November 6), Dr. Faiz emphasized the benefits of the Apostille system. He noted that the use of this platform for certificate verification would save students time, effort, and money, reducing their hassles significantly. He also mentioned that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs processes about two lakh certificates per month, and the Apostille system would help save their working hours by streamlining the verification process.
Dr. Faiz further highlighted the importance of working together with universities and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to meet the expectations of the martyrs of the July Uprising and to build a prosperous nation.
Professor Tanzeemuddin Khan also spoke at the event, mentioning that students interested in higher education often have to visit various offices for document verification. The Apostille system would spare them from these difficulties.
Professor Anwar Hossain remarked that the efficiency of administrative reforms determines how effectively universities can be supported in their operations, and how Bangladesh’s image can be enhanced globally.
In line with the goals of establishing social justice, realizing the spirit of the July Uprising, and fulfilling the nation’s expectations from the UGC, Professor Anwar Hossain urged all stakeholders to ensure the proper implementation of the Apostille certification process.
It was announced during the event that steps have been taken to link all universities in the country to the ‘ApostilleMyGov’ platform for the certification of students’ documents who wish to study abroad. The platform is being developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, the ICT Ministry’s A2I program, and the UGC under the Apostille Convention. The platform will be finalized by December of this year.
The event was attended by UGC department directors, officials from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, A2I, registrars and IT officers from various universities, and relevant UGC officials.
