The National Gene Bank, developed under the National Gene Bank Policy, is set to employ 252 new staff members, as confirmed by Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Advisor to the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change.
On Sunday, November 3, Hasan shared this update following her visit to the newly constructed National Gene Bank at the National Institute of Biotechnology (NIB) in Savar’s Ashulia area. During her visit, she reviewed the management and operational status of the facility.
Rizwana Hasan stated, “A draft policy for the National Gene Bank has been presented to the Advisory Council. In alignment with this draft, the construction of the gene bank building at NIB is underway. Before making final recommendations, it is essential to understand its overall management, which is why I am here to assess the new facility.”
She further commented on the recruitment process, noting, “As reported in the news, there has been discussion around appointing senior officials here. Our recommendations regarding recruitment will be based on our assessment of the necessity of the National Gene Bank. If deemed essential, we will make specific recommendations; otherwise, our advice may differ. Although recruitment discussions often lead to debates in various sectors, it’s a reality we acknowledge.”
Senior officials from the National Institute of Biotechnology were also present during the Advisor’s visit.
