Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiya from the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering has been appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET). He received his appointment order on the morning of October 30 and joined his new role in the afternoon.
Following the order of the President, CUET’s Chancellor, the appointment was confirmed through an official notice issued by Senior Assistant Secretary A.S.M. Kashem of the Ministry of Education. The terms specify that Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiya is appointed as Vice-Chancellor in accordance with Article 10(1) of the Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology Act, 2003. He will serve in this position for a tenure of four years from the date of his appointment.
Dr. Bhuiya will receive the same salary and benefits as his current post, along with the facilities associated with the Vice-Chancellor position, though the President and Chancellor retain the right to terminate his appointment at any time.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Bhuiya was serving as the Head of the Nuclear Engineering Department at CUET. His extensive experience includes roles as Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Director of the Institute of Energy Technology, and Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
Dr. Bhuiya earned his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from CUET (formerly BIT, Chittagong) and went on to complete his Master’s at the University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) and his Ph.D. from the National University of Malaysia.
He began his career at CUET as a Lecturer in October 1996, advancing to Assistant Professor in February 2000, Associate Professor in January 2012, and Professor in June 2013. Dr. Bhuiya now joins as CUET’s sixth Vice-Chancellor.
