Industry stakeholders have proposed recognizing Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) as an invisible asset to enhance the business prospects of micro and small enterprises in the information technology sector. They emphasize the need to ensure access to finance and advocate for loan facilities based on IPR in bilateral agreements. Additionally, they called for establishing marketing offices for Bangladeshi ICT committees abroad.
These proposals were made during a meeting of the Taskforce Committee on Redefining Economic Strategies for Inclusive Sustainable Development held on Wednesday at the NEC conference room of the Bangladesh Planning Commission in Agargaon, Dhaka. The meeting was chaired by Dr. K. A. S. Murshid, and attended by various dignitaries, including Dr. Md. Kausar Ahmed from the General Economic Division (GED) of the Planning Commission, Dr. Shamsul Haque from BUET, Dr. Rumana Haque from Dhaka University, Fahim Mashrur, founder of BDJobs, Meir Shahrooq Islam from BASIS, Sami Ahmed, Managing Director of Startup Bangladesh, and top officials from various banks.
During the meeting, Fahim Mashrur emphasized the importance of updating banking policies to leverage fintech data for co-lateral loans and simplifying the process for starting new businesses. Meanwhile, Meir Shahrooq Islam presented several proposals focused on creating equity within the ICT sector.
It has been announced that a meeting will be held on November 10 with stakeholders to determine necessary policies for the development of the ICT sector.
