On Sunday, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) held its orientation program for the undergraduate course of the 2023-2024 academic year. The event took place at the open stage near the university’s TSC, with Professor Dr. Sudip Kumar Pal, Acting Vice Chancellor with urgent administrative and financial responsibilities, as the chief guest.
Special guests included Professor Dr. A.H. Rashedul Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology; Professor Dr. Kazi Afzalur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing; Professor Dr. Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning; and Acting Registrar Professor Dr. Sheikh Mohammad Humayun Kabir. The program was presided over by Dr. Md. Saiful Islam, Deputy Director of the Student Welfare Department.
The event commenced with the national anthem, followed by a minute of silence in honor of those who sacrificed their lives in anti-discrimination student movements. Representing the new students, Mechanical Engineering student Tanzimul Karim and EEE student Tasnia Tabassum spoke at the event, while Abu Ahmed Hasnat and Moushumi Jahan spoke on behalf of parents.
In his address, Professor Dr. Sudip Kumar Pal urged the new students to build themselves as good individuals dedicated to positive change in the country and society. He encouraged them to grow step-by-step into competent and successful engineers, saying, “Showcase your talents and skills with confidence and aspire to be humane engineers. Many CUET alumni have earned acclaim nationally and internationally, and I am confident you will also make a name for yourselves through dedication and hard work. Success demands diligence; there are no shortcuts, and CUET is committed to supporting you in developing into world-class engineers.”
The program was hosted by Associate Professor Dr. Sompod Ghosh and Associate Professor Dr. Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury from the EEE department, along with Mohammad Fazlur Rahman, Deputy Director of the Public Relations Department, and Tasmiya Binte Hai, Lecturer of the MIE department. The event began with a recitation of the Quran by Hafiz Qari Maulana Nurullah, the Imam of CUET’s central mosque.
