The bi-annual general meeting of the Bangladesh ICT Journalist Forum (BIJF), a registered organization of professional journalists in the country’s ICT sector, concluded with enthusiastic participation from its members. During the meeting, the 2023-2025 executive committee pledged to transfer responsibilities to a newly elected committee by December, following an election. Additionally, the audited financial report was presented for the second time, a welfare fund committee was announced, and plans for forming an election commission were discussed.
Held on Thursday evening (October 24) at Vision 2021 Tower in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka, the meeting was presided over by BIJF President Naznin Nahar. The event began with a welcome address by Vice President Bhuiyan Mohammad Inam Lenin, followed by a presentation of the annual report by General Secretary Sabbir Hasan. He highlighted the current committee’s efforts in maintaining transparency in financial transactions, member skill development, and the inclusion of industry initiatives, despite challenging circumstances.
Treasurer Saiful Islam presented the audited financial report for the fiscal year July 2023 to June 2024, addressing queries raised by members. He emphasized that 90% of financial transactions were conducted through banks and that all financial records were properly documented and preserved.
The meeting, which was attended by two-thirds of BIJF’s members, approved the financial report, the welfare fund committee, and the auditor by a voice vote. Discussions also covered the organization’s upcoming elections and other relevant issues.
In her closing remarks, President Naznin Nahar highlighted the committee’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and democratic decision-making since taking office in 2022. She expressed hope that future executive committees would continue this legacy and maintain the integrity of the organization.
The official announcement of the election is expected soon, with the new leadership set to guide BIJF into its next chapter.
