Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) has appointed Mitu Tarua, the elder sister of Hridoy Chandra Tarua, a meritorious student from Chittagong University and native of Patuakhali, who was killed during a student movement against discrimination, as a Library Attendant. The family of the martyred student expressed their gratitude to the government and the university authorities for this gesture.
On Thursday, October 24, at 11 a.m., the Vice-Chancellor of PSTU, Professor Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Islam, handed over the appointment letter to Mitu Rani for the position of Library Attendant.
Registrar Professor Dr. S.M. Hemayet Jahan, Senior Professor of the CSE Faculty Jamal Hossain, Professor Dr. Mohammad Atikur Rahman, Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Abul Bashar Khan, Professor Dr. Md. Khokon Hossain, Deputy Advisor to Student Affairs Dr. ABM Saiful Islam, and Deputy Registrar Dr. Md. Aminul Islam, along with Hridoy Tarua’s parents, Ratan Chandra Tarua and Archana Rani were present at the ceremony.
Earlier, on September 29, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Kazi Rafiqul Islam, accompanied by faculty, staff, and students, visited the Tarua family’s rented house in Munsefpara, Patuakhali, to offer condolences. During the visit, the Vice-Chancellor provided financial support to the family and promised to offer a job to Hridoy’s sister at PSTU. The promise was fulfilled with the appointment of Mitu Rani.
Hridoy Chandra Tarua was shot during a clash in the Bahaddarhat area of Chandgaon, Chittagong, on July 18. He was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital, and when his condition worsened, he was transferred to Dhaka. He succumbed to his injuries on July 23.
