In an effort to commemorate the sacrifices made by students and the public during the July uprising, the DUET Debating Society (DDS) of Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET) is organizing its first-ever inter-university debate competition. The event, titled “Revolutionary July; March of Reform. Freedom in Logic, Annihilation of the Ominous,” will be held on November 8th and 9th on the DUET campus.
The announcement was made by DDS President Abdullah Al Quraish during a press conference at Dr. F. R. Khan Hall on Friday (July 18th). Quraish emphasized the significance of the July revolution, stating, “The students and the public paid with their blood to liberate Bangladesh from fascism, a struggle equivalent to a second independence. To honor this second independence, we have named our event ‘Revolutionary Bangla 2.0.’ The anti-discrimination spirit born from the July revolution must be preserved, as it is integral to realizing the true spirit of our Liberation War. Our event is dedicated to spreading this spirit of equality throughout all levels of society.”
He also called upon all university debate clubs in the country to participate in the competition. DDS General Secretary Masum Billah and other members of the society were present during the press conference.
