A journalist was violently assaulted by staff at Star Kabab in Banani, Dhaka, after protesting against being served spoiled food. The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when Saleh Mohammad Rashid Alok, Publisher and Executive Editor of the online news portal Politics News24, was brutally beaten by a group of waiters. Alok was later rushed to the emergency department of Kurmitola General Hospital for treatment.
Alok recounted the event, stating, “I complained about being served kebab made with spoiled meat, but the staff initially denied the claim. When I persisted, they attacked me collectively, leaving me bloodied. I demand justice for this.”
The incident has sparked outrage among media professionals, who have strongly condemned the assault on a journalist for raising concerns about food quality. Many have taken to social media, calling for a boycott of Star Kabab. Complaints have also reportedly been filed with the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.
Alok plans to file a formal complaint at Banani police station later in the evening.
