Mohammad Abu Sadiq (Kayem), the president of the Dhaka University branch of Islami Chhatra Shibir, has filed a General Diary (GD) against a Facebook group named ‘Aparajeyo Dhaka University’ for posting false information accusing the organization of tendon cutting, using a photo card template of the newspaper Daily Prothom Alo.
He lodged the GD on Friday, October 4, at Shahbagh Police Station against the administrators of the Facebook group.
In the GD, Abu Sadiq mentioned that on October 3, at around 6 PM, the group ‘Aparajeyo Dhaka University’ posted an image or information card using Prothom Alo’s template (photocard) that quoted him as saying, “Those whose tendons have been cut by Shibir were not believers.” He stated that the post is a blatant falsehood and part of a conspiracy.
Sadiq further mentioned in the GD that the post was made to defame him and the Islami Chhatra Shibir, to spread false information on social media, and to incite communal enmity, hatred, and disorder among various factions at Dhaka University. He claimed this would disturb law and order on campus.
The post was made anonymously, but Sadiq alleges that the group administrators are known to him. He said, “This false propaganda is being carried out to harm my life, property, and dignity.”
Meanwhile, Prothom Alo issued a statement on its verified Facebook page, clarifying that the photocard in question was fake and had nothing to do with the newspaper.
Regarding the GD, Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) A.K.M. Shahabuddin Shaheen stated that the president of DU Shibir, Mohammad Abu Sadiq, filed the GD this afternoon. The Cyber Crime Unit will investigate the matter.
