On Saturday, October 5, Chief Advisor to the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, will resume discussions with major political parties. On the same day, the citizen platform “Voice for Reform,” consisting of representatives from various sectors, will host a dialogue focusing on four specific issues.
The platform has opened online registration for participation, and those unable to attend in person can follow the discussions live on social media, according to the organizers.
The day-long event will be held at the International Mother Language Institute in Segun Bagicha, Dhaka. The morning session will address “Immediate Solutions to the Uncontrolled Rise in Prices,” with presentations by Wasim Alim, CEO of Chaldal.com, Dr. Mohammad Helal Uddin, Director of Research at CIRDAP, and economist Jyoti Rahman.
The afternoon session will feature former Inspector General of Police Muhammad Nurul Huda, Senior Research Fellow at BRAC Institute of Governance and Development Dr. Mirza Hassan, and former Additional Inspector General Md. Nazmul Haque. They will discuss how to transition police loyalty from power to the law and the people.
In the evening, a session on media reforms will explore how the press can become more independent. Speakers will include journalist and political analyst Ashraf Kaiser, Professor Geeti Ara Nasreen of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Dhaka University, and journalist and columnist Kamal Ahmed.
The final session will focus on constitutional reforms needed to ensure a balance of power, accountability, and democratization. The main speakers for this discussion will be retired Justice M.A. Matin, Editor of New Age Nurul Kabir, and social analyst Dr. Zahedur Rahman.
