The funeral prayer of Ruhul Amin Gazi, President of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), was held at the National Press Club. He has been laid to rest at his family graveyard in Chandpur.
On Wednesday, September 25, at 1:50 PM, the first funeral prayer was held at the auditorium of the National Press Club, led by Maulana Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami. The second funeral prayer took place at 2:45 PM in front of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU). At the funeral, DRU President Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo; Senior Member of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB), Mohiuddin Ahmed; Joint Secretary Mizanur Rahman; Treasurer Zakir Hussain; Organizational Secretary Khalid Saifullah; Office Secretary Rafiq Rafi; Women’s Secretary Mahamuda Dolly; Publicity and Publications Secretary Sushanta Kumar Saha; IT and Training Secretary Rashim Molla; Sports Secretary Mahbubur Rahman; Hospitality Secretary Mohammad Salim Ullah, and Welfare Secretary Tanvir Ahmed were present.
DRU Cooperative Society Vice President and BFUJ leader Shahin Hasnat, and BFUJ General Secretary Shahidul Islam were also present there among others.
Before the prayer, Hasan Hafiz, President of the National Press Club, DRU General Secretary, leaders of DUJ, BFUJ, and various media outlets, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul, Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar, and Mujibur Rahman Monju, Member Secretary of Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), along with other leaders and activists from different parties, attended the funeral. Nahid Islam, Advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology, was also present.
Before the prayer, Advisor Nahid Islam said, “Ruhul Amin Gazi was a renowned journalist of Bangladesh. He always spoke in favor of the country. On behalf of the interim government, we express our deep condolences. He always fought for the media and against fascism. He was a victim of incarceration. We will free the media from fascism.”
Ruhul Amin Gazi’s son, Adnan Abrar, said before the funeral, “My father always tried to speak the truth. He used to say that he would always work for the country and its people. Yesterday, many were saddened to see my father. He will never call me again. Please forgive my father.”
Dr. Zahid, a member of the BNP’s standing committee, remarked, “The number of good people is decreasing day by day. May Almighty Allah grant Ruhul Amin Gazi a place in Jannatul Firdaus. Ameen.”
Jamaat’s Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar added, “Ruhul Amin Gazi was a courageous journalist. He endured imprisonment for a long time. We pray for the salvation of his soul. He worked for the nation and always spoke on behalf of the people. The nation will remember him forever.”
Poet Abdul Hai Shikder commented, “Ruhul Amin Gazi was an extremely good person. We pray for the salvation of his departed soul.”
Ruhul Amin Gazi passed away on Tuesday at 9 PM while undergoing treatment at a hospital in the capital. He was 68 years old and is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son, and numerous colleagues and admirers.
