Adviser to the Ministry of Telecom, ICT and Information and Broadcasting, Nahid Islam, said that fact-checking is being strengthened by mentioning that widespread rumors are being spread through social media. Stating that there is a plan to hold a fact-checking cell immediately, the information advisor said, “We are thinking about fact-checking so that the truth can be presented to people by verifying the truth of such rumors through social media, so that people are not influenced by rumors and lies.”
He opined so while briefing on contemporary issues after exchanging views with the newly elected committee members of the Bangladesh Film Censor Board and Joori Board at noon on Wednesday (September 18) in the conference room of the Secretariat. Nahid said, ‘widespread rumors are being spread through social media. In this situation, we are talking to various stakeholders and media about fact-checking. Thinking about how fact-checking can be strengthened.’
In response to a question about giving magisterial powers to the army, the adviser said, ‘The law-and-order situation is gradually improving. In order to speed up the law-and-order situation, to ensure public safety, as we are in an emergency situation, the country is being reconstructed, the army has been given this power. This power has been given for the next two months.
“During this period, the police force will be completely reformed and brought back to the field to be stronger and more confident.” That is why such a decision has been taken’- added Nahid.
When asked about the murder case against journalists, he said, ‘The cases are not being done by the government, they are being done from the people’s place. It is also being done from a place of personal enmity. From there we have given instructions and assured that these cases will be reviewed at the earliest. It will be investigated. If there is no complaint, the case will be dismissed.
Nahid also said, I sat with the press club and secretariat journalist forum yesterday. I have said, if there is any such complaint against any journalist or there is a matter of being harmed, the Ministry of Information will send details about it. we will see I have also said that no one will be spared only by being a journalist, cultural person or a poet. Those who were involved in fascism, worked to legitimize it, shaped public opinion through writings and opinions, worked for genocide, incited it, must be brought to justice.
