The Appellate Division Chamber Judge Court did not suspend the High Court’s order asking private television channels to stop broadcasting Somoy TV for 7 days. However, the court has fixed the date of hearing in the Appellate Division on August 25 for the hearing of the application in this regard. As a result, the television broadcast will be stopped until this time, the lawyers said.
The chamber judge of the Appellate Division led by Justice Ashfaqul Islam gave this order in view of the application made by the Managing Director of Somoy TV, Ahmed Jobair, on Wednesday (August 21).
Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Barrister Shakib Mahbub were in the hearing for the application in the court.
According to media reports, the new managing director was appointed at the meeting of the board of directors of Somoy Media Limited at City House in Gulshan on August 10. It is said that according to the decision of the board of directors in the meeting, Ahmed Zobair has been relieved from the position of managing director and chief executive of Somoy Television.
The circular also said that in the same meeting, director Shampa Rahman was given the responsibility as the managing director. All the activities of Somoy Media Limited will be conducted under the guidance of the new managing director.
Later, Ahmed Jobair filed another application in the company bench of the High Court challenging the validity of this exemption. Senior lawyer Ahsanul Karim was on behalf of City Group in the hearing of this application. Senior lawyer AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon appeared for Ahmed Zobair.
