The Chief Advisor of Interim Government Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus joined the 3rd ‘Voice of the Global South’ conference virtually, held in India. This is the first global event of Professor Dr. Yunus after being sworn in as the interim head of the government.
While speaking in the session, Dr. Yunus said, ‘Two-thirds of our population is young. They are the most powerful section of the society. they are different, and are committed to building a new world.’
He also said, ‘Young students and children are buying paints and brushes for them from the shops. They develop their own themes and messages. The messages they paint on graffiti will fascinate anyone. Youngsters are dreaming, it is our responsibility to make their dreams come true.’
The chief adviser to the interim government said, ‘All human beings are born as creative beings. They are natural entrepreneurs. But our educational system and financial system are built only to create job seekers and provide employment for them.’
He thinks that the education system should be reformed. He hopes they can do it together in the Global South. It has a very creative young population.
Nobel laureate Dr. Yunus said the interim government under his leadership is committed to ensuring the transition to an inclusive and multi-party democracy and creating an environment for a free, fair and participatory election. Now their task is to bring about important reforms in electoral system, judiciary, local government, media, economy and education.
Citing history, he said that in 1952, Bangladeshi students sacrificed their lives for their mother tongue. It inspired the struggle for the right to speak mother tongues around the world. Nearly seven decades later, the second student-led revolution is inspiring young people across the Global South to raise their voices for democracy, human rights, dignity, equality and shared prosperity. He further said, ‘I feel honored to be the oldest ‘youngster’ to be a part of this revolution and help them realize their dreams. They all need cooperation. Wish them all the success.’
The inaugural session was at the level of Heads of States or Governments and was chaired by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. At 10:30 in the morning, the chief adviser joined the summit from Dhaka, said Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary of the chief adviser.
