Students of Chandpur Science and Technology University (CSTU) protested by blocking the Chandpur-Comilla regional highway demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Nasim Akhtar. The students are protesting with banners and festoons in support of their one-point demand. The blockade demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor and the registrar caused hundreds of vehicles to get stuck in long traffic jams on the road, leaving commuters suffering.
On Saturday (August 17) from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm hundreds of university students protested on Khalishaduli WAPDA Gate Road in the city ignoring the rain. No law enforcement or administration was seen to restore order on the road till noon. If the Vice-Chancellor does not resign within a day, the students have warned of a tougher program. Around 1 pm, the students moved away from the road and ended the program.
For the past one week, students have locked the main gate of the campus demanding the resignation of the vice-chancellor. Earlier, the students gave a 24-hour ultimatum demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Nasim Akhtar and Registrar Major Md. Abdul Hai (Retd.) through a press conference on the university campus
As there was no solution, on Wednesday (August 14) all the students of the university submitted a memorandum to the President through the Deputy Commissioner demanding the resignation of the Vice-Chancellor. Fakhruddin Omar, Sayem, Rakibul, Kabir, Nihal and Md. Siam Hossain gave the memorandum on behalf of the students.
Meanwhile, the vice-chancellor has been in hiding ever since the demand for resignation arose and has told the media that he will not resign. Chandpur Science and Technology University currently has 180 students studying in three subjects.
