Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Nobel Peace Prize winning economist Dr. Muhammad Yunus in a tweet on Thursday. In that tweet, he wrote, ‘India is committed to working with Bangladesh to fulfill the aspirations of the people of both our countries for peace, security and development.’
Then on Friday Dr. Muhammad Yunus had a phone conversation with Modi. The news of that conversation was also announced by Modi on social media X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. Modi said, ‘I received a telephone call from Professor Muhammad Yunus. We had an exchange of views on the prevailing situation.’
He said, ‘I reiterated India’s support for a democratic, stable, peaceful and progressive Bangladesh.’ Besides, Narendra Modi emphasized on ensuring the safety and security of all minorities including the Hindu community of Bangladesh. Dr. Muhammad Yunus in response said that the interim government is prioritizing the security of all minorities including the Hindu community.
Dr. Yunus and Modi discussed the priority of advancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
