The police have arrested the provocative Major General Ziaul Ahsan, who was dismissed from the army while serving as the Director General (DG) of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Center (NTMC). He was arrested on Thursday (August 15) in the night from Khilkhet area of the capital.
He was arrested by Newmarket police station in a murder case. DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC-Media) Md. Obaidur Rahman confirmed the matter on Friday (August 16) in the afternoon.
He said that based on secret information, former Director General of NTMC Ziaul Ahsan was arrested from Khilkhet area of the capital in view of the case in Newmarket police station.
Update: On Friday afternoon, the court granted the eight-day remand of Major General Ziaul Ahsan, who was discharged from the army. When he was produced before court, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arfatul Rakib gave this order. He has been remanded in a case filed in connection with the death of a shop employee in Newmarket area of the capital on July 16.
Ziaul Ahsan was commissioned in the Bangladesh Army in 1991. He was a trained commando and paratrooper in the army. He has served in the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) for a long time. He joined the RAB on March 5, 2009 as a deputy captain. On August 27 of the same year, he was promoted as a lieutenant colonel and became the director of RAB’s intelligence wing. From December 7, 2013, he served as Additional Director General till his resignation.
While serving as Additional Director General of RAB, he was transferred as DDG of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). He was later attached as Director of NSI from there on 28 April 2016. He became the Director of NTMC in 2017. In an order issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on September 5, 2022, Major General Ziaul Ahsan was appointed as the Director General (DG) of NTMC.
