Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology (DUET) Professor Dr. Md. Habibur Rahman resigned in the face of students’ agitation. In addition, the Registrar of the university, Himangsu Bhowmik; the Director of the student welfare office, Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam; Director of mechanical department Dr. Md. Mostafizur Rahman and Pro-VC Dr. Abdur Rashid have resigned.
The matter was confirmed by the newly resigned Registrar of the DUET Dr. Himanshu Bhowmik. He said, other demands of students are administrative decisions. That is not possible to meet at the moment. We agree with many of the demands of the students.
Students have been protesting at DUET campus since Monday from the morning with 4 point demands. The protesting students said that they will not leave the campus and the streets until their demands are met.
The students’ 4-point demand includes—resignation of VC, Pro-VC, Registrar and Director of Student Welfare; Director of mechanical department. Removal of Mustafizur Rahman; Banning all student politics, including ISKCON, Hizb ut Tahrir; Removal of recruits through latest syndicate.
In this regard, Arman Chowdhury, a member of DUET Journalists’ Association, said, “We have received the VC’s resignation letter in the morning. I received the resignation letter of Pro-VC, Registrar, Director of Student Welfare Department in the afternoon, I will not return to class until our 4-point demand is met.
