Sylhet Shahjalal University of Science and Technology-SUST Vice-Chancellor Farid Uddin Ahmed and three other officials have resigned. Acting Registrar Md. Fazlur Rahman confirmed the matter on Saturday.
Fazlur Rahman said, I have learned about the resignation of the vice-chancellor. But no official paper came yet. In addition, three other officials of the university, Md. Anwar Hossain, Asif Iqbal and Md. Saiful Islam has resigned. These three officers told me about their resignation over the phone.
An official from the university’s public relations department also confirmed the resignation of vice-chancellor Farid Uddin.
Earlier, the anti-discrimination student movement on Wednesday set a deadline for the resignation of the university administration including the vice-chancellor. The students declared the Vice-Chancellor a persona non grata on Thursday as he did not resign within one day. He also locked the administrative building including his office.
On August 21, 2017, the then President appointed Farid Uddin Ahmed, former professor of Economics Department of Dhaka University, as the Vice-Chancellor of Shahjalal University for the first term.
He was then appointed for a second term of four years on June 30, 2021. The term was supposed to expire on August 21, 2025. But Farid Uddin resigned from the post of Vice-Chancellor 11 days before the completion of three years of the second term.
