Revenue of 50% BPO may fall by 30%: BACCO
Although internet connectivity has been restored since July 23, the country’s BPO industry has suffered greatly due to intermittent and slow internet connectivity. This may reduce the annual income of about 53 percent of the companies working in this industry by about 30 percent. Bangladesh Association of Contact Center and Outsourcing (BACCO), a commercial organization of this sector, has made 6 demands, including the permission to use satellite internet, considering the BPO industry as a service under the scope of emergency services to avoid such a situation in the future.
This was stated in a press release sent to the media on Thursday. The rest of the demands attached to it include – construction of a separate internet infrastructure or separate data centers for BPO/call center industries, permission to use satellite internet, establishment of information technology zones to deal with disaster situations, re-promotion of Bangladesh as a reliable destination for BPO services or re – Formulation of policies/laws to ensure branding and uninterrupted internet services.
BACCO Executive Director Lt. Col. (Retd.) Md. Mahtabul Haque presented these recommendations in a discussion meeting titled “Impact of the Recent Internet Shutdown” held on Wednesday (July 31) to determine the amount of damage caused by the time the Internet connection was closed and to determine future measures to overcome this damage.
The meeting was attended by BACCO Executive Committee and representatives of member organizations and industry leaders.
BACCO vice-president Tanveer Ibrahim moderated the meeting while BACCO Executive Committee Senior Advisor Ahmadul Haque, Joint General Secretary Tanjirul Bashar, Finance Secretary Md. Aminul Haque, Director Md. Fazlul Haque, Zayed Uddin Ahmed, Abdul Quader were present.
