Social media including Facebook, TikTok, which have been closed since last 12 days, are being opened from Wednesday in the afternoon. They are urged to be more careful in hiring local fact checkers. This decision has been made as Facebook, TikTok and YouTube have agreed to provide services in Bangladesh in accordance with the constitution and community standards of Bangladesh.
It is known that more importance will be given to the use of fact check and AI platforms. In coming days, they will be more careful and cooperative with Bangladesh government.
In a meeting held on Wednesday with social media representatives on the third floor of BTRC building in Agargaon, it was highlighted that the community is violating the guidelines and national security by presenting data on criminal behavior, fake information, personal information sharing etc.
After the meeting, this information was given by the Minister of State for Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology, Zunaid Ahmed Palak. He said, these media will be opened only after this meeting. As a result, the use of VPN will reduce which further reduces the internet speed.
It is reported that TikTok Asia Policy Head Ferdous Muttakin, Facebook’s Asia Pacific Region Policy Head Sarim Aziz, Bangladesh Policy Lead Rujan Sarwar, Community Standards Expert Justin, Compliance and Regulation Expert Sashank Shah, Law Enforcement Expert Krishna, Legal Expert Nayantara joined in person. Last night YouTube asked for time in the mail.

On July 18, when violence spread across the country around the quota reform movement, internet services were shut down around 9 pm. Five days later, the broadband internet service was launched on an experimental basis from the night of July 23. Besides, after being closed for 10 consecutive days, mobile internet was launched on July 28 from 3:30 pm. However, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, X are closed even though the internet is open.
