Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology of Bangladesh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China to strengthen investment support in the digital economy from ‘strategic partnership’ to ‘comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership’. Moreover, one more MoU was signed to strengthen digital economic cooperation and the telecommunication network modernization for digital connectivity projects has also been declared completed on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
These agreements and declarations were signed between the two countries in the presence of visiting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People at noon local time.
The agreement was signed by State Minister of for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak and Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen. On the other hand, China’s Telecom Minister, Jing Zhuang Long and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Li Qiang and Sheikh Hasina held a bilateral meeting with the representatives of the two countries at the Great Hall before signing the agreement and memorandum of understanding. In the bilateral meeting, apart from the Rohingya issue, various regional and international issues including trade, investment, bilateral relations and cooperation between the two countries were discussed.
Bangladesh and China signed a total of 21 MoUs and agreements and 7 declarations after the meeting. Out of these 2 MoUs have been renewed. The two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of agreements and MoUs, signing of declarations and handing over of documents.
Memorandums of understanding and documents signed:
1. The Bangladesh Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen investment support in the digital economy.
2. China National Financial Regulatory Administration (NFRA) and Bangladesh Bank signed a memorandum of understanding on banking and insurance regulation.
The two countries signed a protocol on plant health related (phytosanitary) materials for export of fresh mangoes from Bangladesh to China.
4. The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on economic development policy support.
5. Bangladesh and China signed a memorandum of understanding on trade and investment assistance.
6. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed to strengthen digital economic cooperation.
7. A Signing of Minutes was signed to discuss the ‘Feasibility Study’ of the China-Aid National Emergency Operations Center project in Bangladesh.
8. Letters were exchanged on the 6th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge Renovation Project with Chinese assistance.
9. Letters were exchanged on Feasibility Study of China-Aid Construction of Nateshwar Archaeological Site Park Project.
10. Letters were exchanged regarding the 9th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge Project with the assistance of China.
11. A memorandum of understanding was signed to strengthen cooperation in medical services and public health.
12. A memorandum of understanding was signed to strengthen infrastructure cooperation.
13. The two countries signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in green and low-carbon development.
14. The MoU on the provision of hydrological data of the Yarlung Zangbo (Brahmaputra) River to Bangladesh during the flood season was renewed.
15. Bangladesh Ministry of Information and Broadcasting signed a memorandum of understanding with China National Radio and Television.
16. China Media Group (CMG) and Bangladesh News Agency (BSS) signed a memorandum of understanding on mutual cooperation.
17. Bangladesh Television (BTV) signed another MoU with China Media Group (CMG).
18. An agreement was signed by Xinhua News Agency and Bangladesh News Agency (BSS).
19. Another agreement was signed by Xinhua News Agency and Bangladesh Television (BTV).
20. A memorandum of understanding was renewed by the Ministry of Education of China and the Ministry of Education of Bangladesh.
21. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Public-Private Partnership for Sustainable Infrastructure Development.
