A case has been registered in the case of torture and extortion of a student of Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) after keeping him in a room of a residential hall.
Ashrafuzzaman Zahid, Provost and Associate Professor of Shaheed Moshiur Rahman Hall of the University filed the case with Kotwali Police Station on Monday (April 3) night. Three people, including an unknown person, have been accused.
The accused as named in case are Mohammad Shoaib Ali and Salman M Rahman, fourth year students of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) department of the university.
Jessore Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tajul Islam said that on Monday night, a complaint was filed on behalf of the University for assaulting a student named Ismail Hossain and demanding an extortion of Tk. 10 lakh. The complaint has been accepted as a case. Case No. 15. The complaint will be investigated and legal action will be taken.
On Sunday around 2 o’clock in the afternoon, the student of the Department of Nutrition and Food Technology (NFT) Md. Ismail Hossain was called to room number 528 of Shaheed Moshiur Rahman Hall and was tortured for five hours by Salman, Shoaib, who are known as Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) workers. In this incident, the university authorities have already temporarily expelled the accused Salman and Shoaib from the hall and the university.
