DNCC Market of Gulshan-1 has been included in universal QR code based cashless payment system. Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Md Atiqul Islam inaugurated the process of incorporating DNCC market into a complete cashless payment system under the initiative of ‘Cashless Bangladesh’ at Gulshan Nagar Bhaban on Tuesday (7th March) afternoon.
In continuation of Bangladesh Bank’s ‘Cashless Bangladesh, Smart Bangladesh’ initiative, Seba Platform in partnership with Mutual Trust Bank Limited and Mastercard has implemented Bangladesh’s first cashless market DNCC-1, ‘All Payments in One QR’.
Currently, most merchant points use Point of Sale (POS) to pay for goods or services. In this case the cardholder completes the transaction using QR by inserting the card into the PoS machine. Banks usually provide PoS to large and medium merchants due to the installation and maintenance of POS machines used at merchant points.
On the other hand, QR-code based transactions and maintenance are easier and safer for small/micro traders and marginal product sellers, so banks can include these small traders in the digital payment system by providing QR codes (printed on paper or plastic) as an alternative to PoS. In case of QR code-based transaction, the customer will pay for the product or service by scanning the QR code displayed at the merchant point using the app of the issuing bank/institution on his smartphone. In this case, the Issuing Bank/Institution will credit the merchant’s account by debiting the customer’s selected bank account or Debit/Credit/Prepaid Card or Go-Wallet in the app. Moreover, the QR code-based payment system ensures greater financial inclusion as transactions are also possible using bank accounts and MFS-wallets.
DNCC Mayor Atiqul Islam said in his speech as a chief guest at the opening ceremony, ‘We have already been able to build Digital Bangladesh under the leadership of the Prime Minister. We have now started activities to build Smart Bangladesh. Dhaka North City Corporation has now brought many services online. Now no one has to visit DNCC office to pay holding tax and get trade license. Citizens are getting this service online at home. All services will be brought online gradually. We will use rickshaw QR code to stop illegal rickshaw movement and ensure safety. Smart parking will also be launched soon.’
Mayor further said, bringing these services online is not such an easy task. A cycle works in providing services in the analog system. They don’t want to provide services online to get illegal benefits. We are making such cycles useless by providing services through online. This will ensure accountability.
He said, “We have launched ‘Sabar Dhaka’ app. Through this, any complaint can be reported by the city dwellers and services will be provided from the concerned department. The two mayors of the north and the south launched urban transport together. People will get the opportunity to travel in city transport by using Metrorail e-ticket. We have started working on that as well.”
Atiqul Islam also said that arrangements will be made to display the product price list on digital billboards in DNCC markets.
Chief executive officer of DNCC, Salim Reza; Bangladesh Bank Director Muhammad Badiuzzaman Didar, Mutual Trust Bank Limited Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Syed Mahbubur Rahman, MasterCard Bangladesh Country Manager Syed Mohammad Kamal and Seba Platform Limited Chairman Raihan Shamsi were also present among others.
