Popular open AI chatbot – ‘ChatGPT’ can compose articles, essays, jokes – even poems in response to various prompts. Microsoft-backed software company OpenAI has made the app publicly available for free since November 22. And within two months of its launch, the app recorded the fastest user growth in consumer app history.
According to analyst company ‘UBS’, this popular chatbot reached the milestone of approximately 100 million monthly active users in January. SimilarWeb, another analyst firm, said about 1.3 million unique users used ChatGPT daily in January, more than double the number in December.
“In 20 years of following the Internet, we’ve never seen consumer Internet apps grow so quickly,” UBS analysts wrote in a research paper.
According to market analyst firm Sensor Tower, it took TikTok nine months to reach the 100 million subscriber milestone since launch. And in the case of Instagram, it was two and a half years. But ChatGPT has crossed that milestone in just two months.
On Thursday, OpenAI announced the launch of its $20 monthly customer service, initially only for US users. According to the company, this will result in relatively durable and fast service as well as the opportunity to be the first to use various new features.
Analysts expect the ‘viral’ unveiling of ChatGPT to give OpenAI a competitive advantage over other AI companies. Help reduce computing costs derived from customer service.
While the increasing use of chatbots in OpenAI is a factor in computing costs, it is playing an important role in assisting chatbots in various trainings, according to a Reuters report. On the other hand, the availability of this tool has raised questions about issues like dishonesty and insertion of wrong information in various academic works.
