Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphone series is expected to be unveiled on February 1. Ahead of unveiling this lineup, the South Korean tech giant has officially unveiled their new 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor. Samsung said that this new mobile camera sensor will be seen in several premium smartphones of the next generation.
In this case, this new sensor may be used in the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra smartphone. Samsung has already started full production of the new sensor. The 200-megapixel camera sensor is likely to be used in premium devices with a front-facing display. The list may also include the next-generation Galaxy Z Fold series of smartphones.
In a blog post, Samsung said the ISOCell HP2 sensor comes with 200 million 0.6-micrometer pixels in a 1/1.3-inch optical format. Such a size sensor has also been used in smartphones that come with multiple 108-megapixel cameras, including the Galaxy S22 Ultra and S21 Ultra.
However, since the sensor size of the predecessor ISOCell HP1 and the successor are more or less the same, Samsung may use advanced computational photography technology to capture high-resolution images.
