The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the legal framework of European Union countries for the exchange and processing of personal data protection. It is under this law that tech giants like Google, Facebook and Twitter have been cautious in protecting individuals’ data; similarly, facing compensation. After four long years, Bangladesh has recognized this GDPR, which is widely discussed in the world.
BGD e-GOV CIRT under ICT Division has been granted Data Protection Authority Certificate for 2023 after passing the criteria on various parameters after the new Data Privacy Act. After receiving approval on the first day of the year, Bangladesh Computer Council’s CA Operations and Security Department and Director of Datacenter Tarek Mosaddek Barkatullah confirmed the receipt of this certificate on Wednesday (January 4). He said, after getting this certificate, we got recognition to work as auditor of GDPR. We are now able to participate in EU countries’ rules, policies and controls on data protection as a member of the GDPR.
According to the source, the new DPA, data center, control, security is gradually getting a good position at the global level and above all, since the organization has a GDPR recognized Data Protection Officer (DPO), BGD e-GOV CIRT has been granted the BGD e-Government Certificate in accordance with Article 39 of the Data Protection Act of 2017 in the European Union for the period of 31 December 2023. GDPR registration certificate granted. As a result of this certificate, the National Data Center and the government’s agency responsible for ensuring cyber security will be able to audit the digital security of multinational companies located in Bangladesh or operating in this country.
It is reported that 6 of the 13-member team of BGD e-GOV CIRT have already received the GDPR certified DPO certificate for audit work. They are Tauhidur Rahman, Rezaul Islam, Tamim Ahmed, Md Moinul Hossain, Ariful Islam and Rezaur Rahman. Among them is the Certified Data Protection Officer USA certificate of Touhidur Rahman, Chief Information Security Officer of BGD e-GOV CIRT.
Talking about the GDPR registration, Computer Forensic (EnCE) Certified and Certified Data Protection Officer (CDPO) Touhidur Rahman told DigiBangla that despite the GDPR, Europe and UACA now exchange information in ‘Safe Harbour’. Moreover, as a result of the lifestyle, values and culture of the people of Bangladesh with that region, now they are working to become part of the existing APAC-CBPR or Cross-Border Privacy Rules for data protection for the Asia Pacific region. Then it will be easy to stop the arbitrary use of Bangladeshi data abroad or harming individuals.
