The European Union has already passed the law to adapt USB Type-C chargers mandatorily for all electronic devices in Europe from 2024. In the same way, the central government of India is going to bring new rules with USB Type-C port.
All smart devices will now use USB Type-C port. Separate charging ports for feature phones were also discussed in the meeting. Consumer affairs secretary Rohit Kumar Singh recently said that the stakeholders have reached a consensus on the matter in a meeting of a task force set up by the Centre.
In the meeting, there was a detailed discussion on the objectives of the 2 standards of chargers. All compatible devices and cheap phones will be used for what chargers came up. A common type of charger for all consumer devices will simplify the user’s life and on the other hand reduce the level of e-pollution in the environment.
In 2021, India produced about 5 million tons of e-pollution. India ranks third in this list after USA and China.
Several developed countries around the world have already made USB Type-C chargers mandatory. The European Union passed the law in this regard in June this year. For this reason, Apple will be forced to use the USB Type-C port on the iPhone from 2024.
