“Currently, failure to develop the national grid in coordination with the production, supply and demand of electricity and strengthening of technical capabilities as well as cyber security measures may lead to disaster in the national grid.”
In a statement sent to the media on Thursday (October 6), the President of Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumer Association Mohiuddin Ahmed made such a comment.
He said that the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) claims that they have developed the national power grid and transmission line through modern technology. So, our question is – even after two days, the reason for the grid failure is not known.
“If modern technology was used, the fault would have been detected automatically and immediately. Even though technically they have a huge fiber network at their disposal they have not been able to develop the technical usage.’
He said, despite not being able to use it themselves, PGCB is earning hundreds of crores of taka every year by leasing their fiber to private telecommunication companies. In fact, the extent to which PGCB has improved in cyber security also needs to be looked into.
In today’s technology era, uninterrupted power supply is essential to keep uninterrupted internet and telecommunication services running. The disruption of the national grid brought about a standstill in public life with all forms of communication and activities halted. I request the government to keep a watchful eye so that such disasters do not happen again in the future’.
