After reaching from doorstep to palmtop through paperless service, this time to ensure the accountability, transparency and speed of the government employees and officials, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting Dr. Hasan Mahmud inaugurated the ‘People’s Government’ on Thursday on World Democracy Day. The Citizen interactive web address https://janatarsarkar.gov.bd/ is launched with the intention of building a smart government system.
President of the program Zunaid Ahmed Palak said that this tool ‘Janatar Sarkar Citizen Interactive Web Portal’ has been developed to ensure a better democracy by developing democratic practices to make the one-way digital services of the government into two-way. Through this, people can give constructive criticism or suggestions or recommendations. They will respond to the government’s decision. These public sentiments will be sent to the Prime Minister, ministers and secretaries every week for now.
11 ministries of the government have already been added to this portal. He also informed about the plan of sending this report to reach the top level of the government once a day by adding 56 ministries.
Meanwhile, the state minister also said that 1 lakh officials of 11 thousand departments of the country are now using e-documents up to the union level. Prime Minister held 1600 meetings digitally in two years. 6,500 government services have reached the hands of people through ‘MyGov’ app. Cases have been conducted in virtual court during Covid-19 pandemic.
‘They may not be visible to the eye; like oxygen. But we all benefit from it’- added Palak.
He said, “Digital services or software are not visible to the eye but we all get their benefits. For example, police, ambulances are there to save lives by calling the 999 emergency number launched on December 12, 2017. No one thought of this service after the independence of Bangladesh. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government and Sajeeb Wazed Joy Bhai thought of it. As a result, billions of people are getting services every day. How many sisters are being protected? How many lives have been saved? How many fishermen have been lost in the sea and their lives have been saved. This is how the Sheikh Hasina’s government is engaged in the service of the people 24 hours a day and night”.
The event was held at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Film Directorate where Masuda Bhatti, Acting Editor of Dainik Amader Arthoniti, Member of Parliament Nahid Ezhar Khan and Director General of Film and Publication Directorate S. M. Golam Kibria were present as special guests.
Bangladesh Computer Council Executive Director Ranjit Kumar, Digital Literacy Center Jantar Sarkar Portal and Government E-mail Service Project Director Saiful Islam, a2i and UNDP representatives were also present in the event.
