Bangladesh Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr. Benazir Ahmed commented that if the potential threats and risks of the cyber world are not properly dealt with, the police’s capabilities and initiatives will fail and the criminals will rise again. For this reason, like other countries in the world, Bangladesh Police has also focused on digitalized policing as well as cyber world, he said.
The IGP said that the use of technology is increasing in every sphere of national life. In this continuation, technical services have been increased in line with Digital Bangladesh. Common people are served with National Emergency Service 999, Online Police Clearance, Passport Verification, Online Immigration, Crime Data Management System and e-Traffic Security System. Time has come to strengthen collaborative efforts among national and international organizations, stakeholders to counter all types of cyber threats and challenges in the coming days. Capacity building of police personnel, digitalized policing, experience sharing, best practices among expert police are the need of the time. These initiatives need to be considered by world police leaders.
He commented so at the 11th international conference of the International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA), an organization of police training institutions of different countries, at a hotel in the capital on Monday (September 12). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the conference. 127 representatives including heads of police training academies of 45 countries including Bangladesh participated in it.
On the concluding day of the conference, the police chief also said that the rapid advancement of technology has been changing economic and social life for decades and the nature of crime and criminals. Criminals are committing crimes in new ways. Even if they are sitting in other countries of the world, they can carry out cyber-attacks and destroy state assets. Criminals can wreak havoc with cyber-attacks from one country to another.
The IGP said Bangladesh Police is always working to enhance professional knowledge in fighting crime on digital platform. We attach utmost importance to training curriculum development.
Dr. Benazir said, Bangladesh Police is working to connect with the common people and deliver services to the common people by using the fourth industrial revolution and the increasing development of information technology. Bangladesh Police has always demonstrated its ability to take strict action against any crime organized online, cyber terrorism and any threat.
President of INTERPA and Rector of Turkish Police Academy Prof. Yilmaz Lak, Rector of Police Staff College Additional IGP Khandaker Golam Farooq and Senior Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs Md. Akhtar Hossain and others also spoke at the event.
