Based on the complaint against the mismanagement of Bangladesh Railway of Mohiuddin Howladar Rony, a Dhaka University (DU) student, a writ has been filed in the High Court challenging the validity of the decision to impose a fine of Tk. 2 lakh on Shohoz.com.
On Tuesday (July 26), barrister Tanjibul Alam filed a writ on behalf of Shohoz.com in the relevant division of the High Court.
Earlier, Mohiuddin Rony tried to buy Dhaka-Rajshahi tickets on the website of Bangladesh Railway to travel to Rajshahi on June 13. He was then sent a verification code from bKash to the online payment system. But the ticket price was deducted from the bKash account before confirming it with PIN number.
After the incident, DU student Rony complained to the railway server room at Kamlapur railway station. From there it is stated as the reason – it happened because of the system. However, if the money was not returned within 15 days, they were asked to file a complaint.
According to Rony, the computer operator of the station then sold the seat which he had booked through the mobile app at Tk. 680 sold to another passenger for Tk. 1,200 before his eyes. After that, he complained to the consumer rights department twice on June 14 and 15.
At the same time, Rony, a student of Theater and Performance Studies Department of Dhaka University, started a sit-in program in front of the ticket counter of Kamlapur railway station.
Meanwhile, after Rony’s complaint, a hearing was held in the meeting room of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department on July 20. After the hearing, Shohoz.com, the company responsible for selling railway tickets, was fined Tk. 2 lakh.
